⚠️ Defective Commercial Deadlatch – Clear Explanation

Broken deadlatchy 31/32

New VS broken deadlatch

New LSDA deadlatch metal

A commercial door can still close even when the deadlatch is damaged.

When one deadlatch side pin is broken, the latch may still rest on one side pin only, making it appear that the door is properly latched.

When both side pins are broken:

  • The latch is no longer controlled

  • The latch extends too far outward

  • The lock does not function properly

  • The key may bind or fail to turn

  • The door may not lock at all

🔎 Why this happens:
Deadlatch side pins keep the latch aligned and travel-limited.
When they break, the latch over-travels, causing internal misalignment and lock failure.

📌 Common deadlatch sizes affected:

  • Deadlatch 31/32

  • Deadlatch 1 1/8

  • Deadlatch 7/8

⚠️ This is a mechanical deadlatch failure, not a key or cylinder issue.
